Burglary Prevention
We have created a helpful hints and tips page to prevent burglaries in your home:
-
Always lock before you leave
Most burglars are opportunistic, they look for easy access which won't take long and won't arouse any suspicion, hence why so many try the front door first.
-
Double lock windows and doors
Windows are left unlocked even more so than doors, an opened window that is visible from a street or alley may be the sole reason for your property being selected by a burglar.
-
Remove temptation
Ensure your valuables (Gadgets, jewellery & cash) are kept out of sight - away from windows.
-
Secure your keys
Never leave your spare keys concealed anywhere near the front door - burglars know all the hiding places.
-
Secure ladders & tools
Don't provide the burglar with tools to do their job. Keep all ladders and tools out of sight and lock away securely.
-
Make your property look occupied
If possible, encourage a neighbour to park on your drive. Try to leave a light on - a dark property is an opportunity for the burglar to hide. The trick is to make your property looked as 'lived-in' as possible.
To stop a burglar, you need to think like one!
If the need to make a claim should arise, you can submit your claims here, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
