Major City Riots - What you need to know
Home and Landlord's insurance policies should cover you for fire, looting or damage caused. Many policies will also cover you and your tenants for accommodation costs should they be unable to do stay in the property, due to damage caused by riots or malicious fires; however if your property is unoccupied between lets, please refer to your policy schedule for clarification of cover.
It is a condition of most insurance policies that claims for riot and civil commotion are reported within 7 days of the loss with FULL INFORMATION PROVIDED - to enable insurers to comply with legislation under the Riot (Damages) Act 1886.
The 7 day timescale is a condition of your policy - please act immediately should your property be damaged.
(An extension can be requested from the police authority; however these must still be made within 14 days, therefore you must still contact Deacon immediately.)
The Association of British Insurers has since released guidance on legal position of riot compensation, you can view these guidance notes by clicking here.
We have a number of experienced loss adjusters on the ground to ensure that your claims are processed as quickly as possible; however if you do have any queries or need to make a claim you can visit our online claims notification page where you can submit your claims 24/7.
Until agreement is reached, please contact us immediately for assistance and advice should you be affected by the recent riots on 01202 449 611.
