MALICIOUS DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Malicious damage to a property is another common claim that we see here at Deacon. Due to typical exclusions and limitations that apply to many buildings insurance policies, it is always best to notify any potential claims as quickly as possible.

Malicious Damage in insurance terms is defined as deliberate damage to property - much the same as vandalism. Malicious Damage does NOT include arson, and usually excludes damage caused by accident or by animals. Malicious Damage will also frequently exclude damage caused by tenants.

Typical claims that are covered are:

  • Graffiti damage
  • Vandalism to buildings, garages, boundary walls, fencing and communal fixtures covered by the insurance

In the event that you need to make a claim, below is a list of the typical questions that we may ask in order to help us validate your claim:

  • Date of the incident/when was the damage first noticed
  • Description of the damage caused
  • Confirmation that the incident has been reported to the Police
  • Details of the Crime Reference Number (CRN) provided by the Police
  • Information about whether anyone has been apprehended (in some cases, we may be able to get our money back by claiming against the third party)
  • Photographic evidence to help us visualize the extent of the damage
  • One or Two estimates for the repairs.  This is dependent on the extent of the necessary repairs and the associated costs

To help guide you through the process, we have developed a specific online claim form for Malicious Damage claims. You can go straight to our online claim notification page by clicking here.
